When Jesus Christ, our Savior, Redeemer, and Lord, declared, “IT IS FINISHED!” on the cross of His crucifixion, the veil of the temple into the holy of holies was torn from top to bottom. This unusual and miraculous event signified the finished work of the redemption, the fulfillment of all prophecies about the Messiah, and individual access into God’s holy presence through His precious blood shed on the cross. The earth also quaked, rocks were split, and graves were opened; with many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep having been raised. The manifestations of God’s power at a place that was meant to be the end of God’s redemption plan caused the centurion and those with him, who were guarding Jesus Christ, to fearfully proclaim, “Truly this was the Son of God!”-John 19, 28-30, Matthew 27:51-54, 1 Corinthians 2:7-8.
Jesus Christ is our Chief High Priest who has gone into the Holy of Holies by his perfect and unblemished blood sacrifice as the atonement for our sins. The obstacle of sin was removed for all who repent and confess their sins to come into God’s presence and abide. The temple’s daily sacrifice of bulls and rams fell short and could not atone for our sins, as the high priest had to first make an atonement for himself before making one on behalf of the people of Israel. God’s open invitation by tearing down the veil top to bottom is an outpouring of undeserved grace from an all-loving God-Hebrews 7:11-28,Hebrews 10: 4-7,Leviticus 16: 1-28.
God’s plan and design after the fall of man in the garden of Eden was to redeem and save man’s soul from eternal banishment. The veil of the temple was torn to usher man back into God’s presence by the blood of Jesus Christ, which is the blood of the new covenant. The promise of eternal redemption was fully fulfilled and secured for all eternity. It is now up to man to choose to draw near to God. The tearing of the veil to reveal the holy of holies, once forbidden to be entered by all, was an unmistakable visible sign to all who would freely come to God through Jesus Christ in heartfelt remorse and genuine repentance. God will always draw near to those who draw near to Him with a lowly and contrite heart. The blood of Jesus Christ forgives our sins and paves the way to boldly approach God’s throne of grace and mercy to receive help in our time of need and to be strengthened by His Holy Spirit to live a life pleasing to Him-James 4:8, Isaiah 57:15. Hebrews 4:16.
We are created for an ever-deepening relationship with God. Rest and contentment for our souls can only be truly found as we develop an intimate relationship with God through Jesus Christ. The tearing asunder of the veil of the temple was purposeful and intentional. Our steps in drawing near to God every single day must also be deliberate and intentional. When we abide in Jesus Christ, and He abides in us, we are abiding in God’s presence, where there is overflowing joy, peace, wisdom, and discernment. The abundant life we all desire and seek is a gift of God’s abiding presence in our lives through the significant tearing asunder of the veil of the temple.- John 15:4-11, Psalm 16:11, John 10:10.
It is time for every believer to go beyond the veil into the holy of holies and abide in God’s abiding presence. Standing in the outer courts is not enough and cannot satisfy the thirsty soul and longing heart! God wants us to keep drawing closer. He wants our joy to overflow in His divine presence. God wants us to be transformed in His presence until He is seen in us. There is no need to wait any longer because Jesus Christ has removed the veil of the covering. Beyond the veil is the secret place of divine encounters. There is more to God and more to drink from the living waters to drink from the well of our salvation. God wants to pour out His Holy Spirit like never before upon those who will go beyond the veil of the outer court. The tearing asunder of the temple veil is an open invitation to anyone who will go beyond the veil in true worship, adoration, and reverence for the eternal God who chose to remove every barrier for an intimate relationship with man through the atoning blood of Jesus Christ on the cross of Calvary, so we can be transformed and behold His glory. The only way to come into the holy of holies is through the blood of the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ, the only perfect sacrifice for the remission of all sins of anyone who repents, confesses, asks, and receives forgiveness for their sinful life anywhere upon the face of the earth –Isaiah 25:7, 2 Corinthians 3:16-18, Zephaniah 3:17.
