While on the cross of crucifixion, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, declared three immortal words, “IT IS FINISHED!” These words have echoed in the hearts of every true believer in every generation as a declaration of the completion of a mission from old by the prophets and eternal victory brought about by a willful and perfect sacrifice made once and for all. Jesus fulfilled God’s promise of redeeming mankind. Jesus Christ gave Himself for us to be redeemed from every form of wickedness and to be purified before God. Jesus Christ is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world –John 19:30, Hebrews 7:27, Titus 2:14, John 1:29.
Jesus was placed at birth for the sole purpose of offering Himself as the unblemished and perfect sacrificial lamb for the remission of our sins. Jesus was and is the long-promised redeemer of mankind made in the garden of Eden when Adam and Eve sinned. Jesus Christ is the seed of the woman that crushed the head of the serpent. The sacrifices of bulls, rams, and the Levitical priesthood were shadows of what was to come. All were pointing to the coming and the finished work of Jesus Christ. Jesus did not leave anything unfinished when He declared, “IT IS FINISHED!” He paid in full for our sins. He paid the ultimate and heinous cost to reconcile us back to God, the Father, by the shedding of His precious blood on the cross of Calvary. He bore the penalties of our collective sins and took away the handwriting of the ordinances of our sins that were written against us to become the righteousness of God through Him. Jesus Christ is the Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world –Luke 2:7, Genesis 3:15, Hebrews 10:1, Hebrews 10:10.
The first Adam brought spiritual separation from God and eternal death. Jesus Christ is the second Adam from heaven who brought salvation, healing, and deliverance to mankind. There is no remission of sins without the shedding of blood. Jesus Christ was wounded for our transgressions and shed His precious blood on the cross for the remission of our sins. Our salvation comes through the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ, genuine remorse, and repentance from our sinful lives. It is the blood of Jesus Christ that washes and cleanses us to have right standing with God-Genesis 3:24, 1 Corinthians 15:22,, 1 Corinthians 15:45, Isaiah 53:5.
Jesus Christ came to die for everyone in every race and tribe who will believe, repent, confess their sins, and receive His love and grace for divine forgiveness. It can never be earned. We will never merit it on our own or by good works. “IT IS FINISHED!” means the price has been paid, and the work of salvation has been completed once and for all. It need not be repeated and will never be. The very strict criteria for the atonement of sins by a just, pure, and holy God were all met at the cross by Jesus Christ. Our salvation is assured and secured forever; our divine healing from sickness and deliverance is part of the salvation package. The abundant life that only Jesus Christ is ours to enjoy. The enemy of our souls is defeated forever with his reign of terror-John 3:16, Ephesians 2:8, Hebrews 9,John 10:10.
“IT IS FINISHED!” is a triumphant declaration of our freedom based on the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross. Jesus Christ came to save, heal, and set us free. The declaration of Jesus Christ on the cross is the greatest news to the heart of a true believer. They are words of victory over sin and eternal damnation. It is a reminder of the complete and finished work. It is the announcement of a divine act that redeemed our souls from the eternal damnation of hell because of our bondage to a sinful life, and the restoration of our relationship with God through a living sacrifice. We need not be separated from God. Jesus Christ is the Chief High Priest who broke down the middle wall of partition between God and man. Jesus Christ is the One who has made us victorious in Him. We are not defeated, and neither are we without hope. Whosoever calls upon Jesus Christ, regardless of what they have done or where they have been, with a sincere heart, will be saved. ” IT IS FINISHED!” is a divine declaration of salvation, healing by His stripes, and deliverance from the works of darkness, victory, freedom, and the abundant life only found in Jesus Christ. Let us all remember the immortal words declared on the cross, rejoice and rest in the finished work of Jesus Christ, our eternal Redeemer and Savior on the cross of Calvary-Ephesians 2:13-18, Romans 10:13, 1 Peter 2:24, 1 John 3:8, John 8:36.
